The interview with Federick Douglass

1. How did you get educated?

i learned from Hugh Auld's outburst that if learning how to read and write was my pathway to freedom, then gaining this knowledge was to become my goal. i gained command of the alphabet on my own and made friends with poor white children i met on errands and used them as teachers. i paid my reading lessons with pieces of bread. At home i read parts of books and newspapers when i could, but i had to constantly be on guard against my mistress. Sophia Auld screamed whenever she caught me reading. Sophia Auld's attitude toward me had changed, she no longer regarded me as any other child, but as a piece of property. However, i gradually learned to read and write. With a little money i had earned doing errands, i bought a copy of The Columbian Orator, a collection of speeches and essays dealing with liberty, democracy, and courage.

2. Why do you think it was important for slave owners to keep slaves ignorant about their birthdays and parentage?
well, that's good question...reason was thse master became less powerful or perhaps master might afraid that slave that point on he vows to become the best man he can possibly become, and to become his own Master.

3.do you consider yourself as free man and find out your father was white!

yes . but i was lucky child who happened to find his way through and get education as well.

The black history month is the significant day for those African-American that change the ways that American are today or American society. these people sacrifice their life to save millions of life. the following African American that makse huge inpact in the History of American and for the people are: Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X , Jackie Robinson, Frederick Douglass and Rosa Parks.

The person I am writing about for Black History Month is Frederick A. Douglass. He was born in 1817 as slave, in Maryland.yet determined to be free, Frederick Douglass escaped from slavery and became one of the most influential figure for American African t Douglass became determined to learn to read. He studied every chance he got. He learned from white playmates he met on the street. He carried bread with him to give to the poor hungry ones in exchange for their help. He later learned to write by watching carpenters initial shipbuilding timber. He mastered the letters by challenging his playmates ability to write better then him. Additionally, he learned by copying the letters from Webster's Spelling-Book and practiced by using the old writing books of the Auld's son. Meanwhile, He became part of the Underground Railroad. also He became a powerful speaker in the anti-slavery .He helped at least three black slaves escape to Canada. He started his own newspaper called the North Star. He tried to stop slavery. He said that helping others was the way to get rid of discrimination.
Frederick Douglass worked hard when the Civil War began. He tried to persuade President Lincoln to accept black enlisted men in to war. When blacks were permitted to enlist, Douglass helped in their struggle for equal pay. After that, Douglas sought to better the conditions of the freed man.

“REUNITING WITH MY DAD IN A NEW LAND”

I was asleep in the airplane, when my brother woke me up with excitement his face. My brother said “Boubacar wake up, we’re reaching New York. We were coming from Guinea, which is in the West Africa. Anyway, I looked through the window and what I saw lifted my spirits. I saw the most beautiful city I had ever seen. There were tall buildings everywhere I looked. Then I saw her, her hand holding something high. It was the statue of Liberty, which told “me” we had reached New York City.
When we got off the plane at Kennedy airport, I saw my dad was there, waiting for us. My brother and I ran to give him a hug. All of a sudden, I felt a warm drop of water on my neck. Can you believe it; my eyes were full of tears. He said “ After 10 years, sons”. It was one of the happiest and most unforgettable moments in my life. My father left us when we were so young with our mother. A lot people thought that we will never going to see our dad again, but they were wrong. I am so proud of him for not forgetting us, and bringing all of us in here to live as family.
At the airport, we saw all kinds of different people speaking different languages. I was getting puzzled and excited the same time. When I first felt the weather I ran back into airport, which made father laughed with big smile on his face. It was really, really freezing. When we got home my father started to ask us about the family but I was so weary sitting in the airplane more than 8hrs. I went to sleep and left both my father and brother talking. When I woke up I realized that I had slept approximately 5hrs. My father and my brother weren’t in the house; it was like I was dreaming or something. Then I checked the door and it was locked which made scared than before. All suddenly I heard somebody trying to open the door. It was dad with my brother holding the grocery bags in their hands. I was so happy see both them
